Case study Learning games for primary school teachers

Najmoo: learning games for primary teachers

How we built Najmoo: learning games, ready to play, into which a primary school teacher puts the questions of a lesson in under ten minutes, for pupils to play in class or at home.

01 The idea

A ready game with the lesson's questions

We wanted a primary school teacher to find a learning game cut to their lesson without designing it themselves: Najmoo designs the game, and the teacher puts in the lesson's questions in under ten minutes, in their own words, images and hints.

Then the class plays it on the board, on devices or at home. Najmoo is for primary school teachers in Algeria and their pupils, from the first year to the fifth, and it was made in El Oued.

02 The build

What we built

A complete product, not a single game: game templates, an app for the teacher, a door for pupils, a public site and an admin dashboard.

  • Game templates

12 games designed by Najmoo, from multiple choice and matching to filling the blanks and true or false, which the teacher adapts to the lesson with their own questions, words and images.

  • The teacher's app

The teacher signs in with their Google account, writes the lesson's questions on a page that looks like an exercise book, and follows the class from there.

  • Playing with the class code

A door for pupils alone: they enter with their class code and play what the teacher prepared, on the board or on devices.

  • The public site

A page that introduces Najmoo to teachers, pupils and parents. It opens on a night sky with Najmoo among its games, and ends on the windows of a town in the Souf, on the dunes.

  • The admin dashboard

A dashboard to run Najmoo, separate from the teacher's app, entered through a link sent by email.

  • The Najmoo character

A small star with twelve moods, from a greeting to joy and thinking, drawn in code rather than in image files, and no point of it ever leaves the outline of the star.

03 The decisions

How we built it

  1. 01 A fully static public site React renders the pages of najmoo.com at build time and runs nothing in the browser, so the page reaches the visitor ready and complete.
  2. 02 Games that move and press The games move with the motion library, every button in them is a coloured key that goes down when pressed, and a wrong answer never shows in red.
  3. 03 Mochir's base in Najmoo's colours We brought Mochir's component library over to Najmoo and recoloured it: indigo for the sky and gold for the star. We started from a ready base, and Najmoo reached production six days after its first line.
  4. 04 An Arabic interface, content in three languages The interface is in Arabic and reads right to left, and a game's content is in Arabic, French or English, so a French lesson plays in French, left to right, inside the same interface.

Where it stands today

Najmoo runs in production with no ads and no sale of data, and has not yet published any figure about its use.
